AFAIK the regexp and font-lock code are identical in both versions (of
course the Lisp is, but both modules are highly dependent on C support
so there's a possibility of difference.)

Are you building with Mule?  Er, scratch that, just send the usual bug
report for both platforms.  Thanks!

Also, try nuking the progress meter, which is a substantially
different implementation and known to be very buggy on X11.

    (setq progress-feedback-use-echo-area t)
