Patches to fix the regexp engine welcome.  As I said, I didn't like
the patches I saw, they just fixed the particular case but didn't
really look right to me.  Nobody was willing to prove they didn't
introduce another bug, so I'm not going to put them in until I have
time to understand them---maybe by summer....

Maybe you can find another reviewer to accept them.
