gcc 2 has warnings too

IIRC, 2.96 is a mutant stepchild of GCC 3.0 that RedHat spun off from the GCC
development tree when they couldn't wait for the official GCC 3.0 release,
which was then in early beta.  It was never an official GCC release.

The question is whether or not 2.96 is still in sufficient use that we need to
add a special case for it when adding the warning flags.  I'm personally
against it, but will happily come up with a patch if others want it.
