[Novalug] Arch linux impressions?

I need to reconfigure a production box myself. I was going to wait for Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, but am concerned about Gnome 3 and my dual monitor set up and other application support (ppas) and lack thereof in the newer Ubuntu releases.

I like the idea of "install once." Is Arch a better rolling release then other options (e.g., Debian)?

I've heard that the experimental nature of rolling releases can "break things." Is this fear overblown?

Glad to hear good things. I am not starting just now but I think the new
ome workstation will get Arch. Time to start branching out a little and
earning more stuff.

So, this would be fine for an old machine where the most
complicated use (besides a browser) would be doing C++/xlib
 program development?

Note - I don't mind updating packages from time to time, but I
really hate having to wipe the machine to do a conplete install
of a conplete installation (horrible phrasing that was). Sounds
like this is not an issue with Arch (with which I have zero experience).
