Isn't it ridiculous that The Debian and Ubuntu folks still require you to burn a CD?

Oh sure, you can wrap them in Kickstart or Cobbler, but that's another story.

How hard can it be to tweak the installation program to look in a .iso image instead?!?

The only thing it will cost you to try it is the price of a recordable
CD and the time to download and install :)
