gparted can change the name. Not sure how to change the icon, I think 
that depends on which desktop manager you are using. Hopefully someone 
else will know that answer :-)

Also, make a new user, log in and see if KDE works ok. I've had upgrades 
'break' things and it turns out to be something in my user profile, not 
really the new software package.
