Thanks for the help. My faxing problem is solved.

I'm using an HP Officejet 6500 all-in-one printer. I installed an up to date 
version of HPLIP from the HP web site and I'm using XSane to operate the 
scanner. I scan a series of pages into a multi-page project and save it as a 
pdf. That gets sent to my customer as an e-mail attachment.

This is saving me hours of work per day.
