Reality check:
Isn't the *ENTIRE* point of the open source movement that *EVERY* user
can have *EXACTLY* the software he wants on his machine?
You sound exactly like Bill Gates proclaiming from his high throne why
everyone should use and love Windows Vista, because it's more advanced see.

Bleh, I am not in the market for a new car... Today's headlines make my
argument for me.

I gave serious consideration to getting me one of these:

I decided I wasn't ready for it and bought me a piece of junk to rebuild
instead. -- It's a major money pit! =P ('93 MX-6)

Why then is Linux better than windows if you can't bend it to your will?

Bleh. =P
That's one of the reasons I'm putting one of these babies in my car. ;)

I would like to have an in-dash computer running Squak on some stripped
down form of Linux. That'll be the UI for doing data logging and
monitoring/configuration of the controller and battery management systems.
Emphasis on stripped down... All this SCSI bullshit and dynamic
everything MAKES NO SENSE, I'm building a car goddamnit, It needs to
work when it's parked, it needs to work when it's at a light, it
absolutely has to work when it's going 80 mph!!! Who do you think I am?
Toyota? I need a version of Linux that is reliable enough to stake my
life on. Not a bunch of fad-driven nonsense that doesn't make the
slightest bit of sense for 99.9999% of the machines and users out there!!!
