The thing about "how do UUIDs work" that has puzzled me is
where on the various devices are they stored?
Its possible I've got the entire concept wrong, but it has
seemed to me that when one "generates" a UUID for a device,
that UUID will be associated with that device unless a
different one is generated for it. So I expect it to be
stored on the device itself and be transported with the
device so the UUID is consistant when moved to a different
environment.
Yet, logical as that may seem to me I do not believe it is
true. How can the UUID generating software know if, and
where a device has writable, stable memory?
So I'm missing something, what?
