I have some sites at 1and1.com and have let them handle the domain names, and have been trying for a long time to move the sites. There is nothing mysterious about transferring the domain name, but there are enough steps in the process that I just have not gotten around to it. I finally did go through the steps and have been waiting for a week for 1and1 to approve the transfer request.

I have had excellent service from directnic.com. I have had friends who
lost domains they had registered with godaddy when the forgot which
e-mail account was on file with godaddy and godaddy was not helpful.
