[Novalug] Ubuntu installation

I downloaded Ubuntu 7.0.4 adn am ready to load it onto my laptop. /home
and /data are two  partitions on the disk that I do not wish to lose.
Before I start, can someone verify that I can have the ability not to
overwrite these partitions?  I would be surprised if I couldn't  .....
but I don't want to be surprised!
