If you're dealing with a P-II, you really ARE better off with MS,
rather than Linux. I collect throw-away 'puters, strip windows,
install linux, and put 'em to use somewhere. P-III's are easy
to come by, so there's really not much need for P-II's. However,
I've been fighting to get FC4 onto a P-II, and not doing well.
I did sorta get it, by installing RH 9, then upgrading to FC4.
However, the X-Windows systems are different, and I'm now trying
to figure out how to reconfigure X-Windows to adapt to FC4. A
straight FC4 install borked.
While you CAN install linux onto a P-II easily by selecting the
right distribution, it's really not worth the headache unless you
enjoy the pain. I prefer to have just one distro on all my boxen.
Case in point, the RH 9 distro doesn't seem to handle flashdrives,
while the FC4 distro has no problem. There appear to be trubs
with either hub.c, or the other driver thingie.
Which reminds me, if anyone can tell me basically what I need to
change to move XWindows from RH 9 to FC4, I'd appreciate it. For
example, moving to a different config file is needed, right?
