Don't use yast, just rpm -Uvh package.rpm. Yast uses the rpm database so the installed rpm will be in seen in yast. The thing about using none OpenSuSE packages is that yast marks these as locked. Its not an issue but if you want to update in the future you have to add a couple of steps to the procedure.
