[Novalug] Desktop system monitor?

I recently installed CentOS from a DVD, and selected all packages. it works great.
   
  Does anyone have an recomendations on desktop monitoring tools?  Im interested in watching processes, disk usage, network activity.. YOU NAME IT.  Im researching how to monitor "the world", with Linux.
   
  Prefer the tools to attach to the desktop background.  If not in the desktop background, than tools that are semitransparent, such as Trillian, on XP.
   
  TIA... this really is exciting. Daily experiencing the joy of OS and Linux.  slowly, but surely, bye-bye Microsoft....
