[Ma-linux] Getting root access on a Ubuntu Live Cd (ver 5.0.4)

So, I boot PC using Ubuntu 5.0.4 Liv CD, which boots me into user unbuntu with
ID of 1000+. But now I can't su to root, so I can mount drive and see data.

I've tried googling to see how I can get around this, but no luck.

I'm hoping someone can help me overcome this.
