You might want to check freecycle.org, or other equivalents, before  
you buy anything. It seems to me that monitors have a much longer  
lifecycle than the computers they are attached to...and this  
translates to a surplus of monitors.

Also, you can be sure your old monitor stays out of the landfill by  
taking it to the transfer station in Rockville, or looking for a local  
computer recycling event. See
