I carry a couple such keys around with me. I've installed Puppy Linux
(puppylinux.com) on them so that there will be a persistent datastore
and made the key bootable so that it'll run Puppy from the key. I also
have a couple of portable apps (portableapps.com) intalled with an
autorun.inf to run the menu application whenever the key is inserted.

Do make backups of your key from time to time, in particular your
persistent datastore. I like to install a portable encryption system on
my bootable keys also so that I've got a cross-platform datastore
outside of the Linux install. My personal preference is Truecrypt,
because it'll run on Windows 32- and 64-bit as well as Linux. I don't
run into other platforms very often in the field right now, so that's
enough for me (though I hope the MacOSX port comes out soon).
