[Dclug] Sound cards, alsa, etc

This thread reminds me I've been meaning to ask for advise for my own
sound card issue.  I'm running ubuntu 7.1 and my card loads about every
other time I boot up.  If it doesn't recognize the card, I shut down and
restart, and more often than not, the card is there.  Any thoughts on
such an intermittent problem?
