What is the party line on tracking MS's SDKs?
I have no personal opinion (I can't do the work), but I am concerned
because Python's Windows maintainer (whom I respect) is saying
"patches welcome, but the VS 2005 will not be supported" because it's
a pain in the butt for him. We already have a lot of Windows variants
to support (including Cygwin and I suspect some people would like
Mingwin/MSYS), but the only really active Windows developer over the
last two years has been Ben, and he's sporadic.
Which SDK are you referring to, specifically? I only have one of the betas of
VS 2005 and haven't spent much time with it, but from what I read, the C++
compiler and standard library are supposed to be more compliant with the
standard than VS 2003. If you're not worried about building "managed" code,
I'm
not sure what it is about VS 2005 that would be a pain to support. Is there
some benefit, other than security, to building XEmacs with managed code?
