Xft otoh works very nicely appart of the known bug that it
apparently does not figure out the vertical spacing of characters
completely right (lowest pixels of very tall chars sometimes
stripped).
As far as I can tell, this is a bug in Xft or perhaps in the fonts.
XEmacs is being lied to about the size of text extents.
I'm not sure what's going on with the "cursor turds", though. With
certain fonts and font engines, that is so consistent that I believe
it to be an XEmacs bug.
