My nostalgia for Icon makes me forget about any of the bad things. I don't
have much nostalgia for Perl, so its faults I remember. Scott Gilbert c.l.py

Nope. IIRC I've built 21.4.9 without --with-system-malloc on
RH8/GCC3.2, and I'm sure I have built 21.4.10 RC[1-3] without it, and
had no problems. My installation info:

O.k. I found a solution. The compilation process works if you use the
"--with-system-malloc" option during configuration.
Looks like this is not really an XEmacs problem...
