I reiterate my previous statement -- the XFree86 folks are the Good Guys. They deserve our support. Just because past releases of theirs has concentrated on free OS'es, doesn't mean their distribution is any less portable than (what used to be) the base X11. Have you tried building XFree86 on your target system? I've built and installed both `vanilla' X11R4 and X11R5 on Suns and HPs and XFree86 installation from source sure looks the same to me today.
