Hey, I'm looking to get a MacOS X machine soon. What's the status of
xemacs on OS X? I've done a bit of searching, and the state of things
seems a bit chaotic. There's a carbonized version of xemacs 19.14
(http://homepage.mac.com/pjarvis/xemacs.html), then there's the X11
versions, ...
Of course, I'm eager to put my coding skills to work.

I should qualify that. XEmacs 21.5, and XEmacs 21.4.x + the necessary
patch, have been building out of the box for the guys it has been
building out of the box for for a couple months.
So it will BOOTB in theory. I haven't seen it with my own eyes, tho.

And on top of that, if you get the XFree binaries for Darwin, you
build XEmacs with X just fine, and it looks just like it would on
other X system. Runs just fine too as an X app.
Now if I could only get some tool (short of a new keyboard) to move
that stupid CapsLock key down where it belongs and get the Ctrl key
where it should be!

Yes, that was the first thing I tried, but there's no entry for an
iMac, and I'm too lazy and stupid to make one. And having a different
mapping between X and Aqua apps would probably drive me crazy!

There seems to be a hardware limitation, at least on my iBook -- the
caps lock key generates key down events when pressed once, and key up
events when pressed again.
I've found that a control lock key is even more useless than a caps
lock key is.

Didn't know that. I guess the only solution is to scrap the iMac
keyboard and get another, like maybe a Sun USB keyboard where the
control key is already in the right spot. Don't know if that would
work or not.
