X doesn't give apps a way to specify a font other than the XLFD, and in the fully qualified case as here, there's no room for more specifity. Apparently X does not define any particular behavior for XListFonts or XLoadFont, and XListFonts and XLoadFont do not seem to be related in the sense that the font that will be loaded by XLoadFont can be deduced from the output of XListFonts. You could try playing with the FontPath to give priority to unscaled fonts from 75dpi and 100dpi. As a last resort, you can munge the fonts.dir files to distinguish between the font files that are loaded. Jason> Apple's, yes. OK.
