To: XEmacs Beta Subject: [Bug: 21.4.13] fontifying is sloooooow Reply-to: scop@xemacs.org --text follows this line-- ================================================================ Dear Bug Team! Fontifying anything with 21.4.13 is *very* slow, the progress meter flashes a lot and seems like practically nothing is happening. By pressing and holding Ctrl-C for a couple of seconds, the fontification actually completes. This is a Red Hat 9 box. 21.4.12 built with exactly same options and setup doesn't exhibit this behaviour. The gcc is "gcc version 3.2.2 20030222 (Red Hat Linux 3.2.2-5)" and glibc is "glibc-2.3.2-27.9". See end of this mail for a backtrace produced by: 1) gdb /usr/bin/xemacs | tee debug.log 2) run -q aclocal.m4 (aclocal.m4 is from the 21.4.13 tarball) 3) M-x font-lock-fontify-buffer 4) [The flashing progress meter and slowness happens here] 5) kill xemacs from another window 6) bt Let me know if there's something more I can do to help debug this. I have the built RPMs handy, will make them available on request. ================================================================ System Info to help track down your bug: --------------------------------------- uname -a: Linux bobcat.ods.org 2.4.20-13.9 #1 Mon May 12 10:55:37 EDT 2003 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux ./configure 'i686-redhat-linux-gnu' '--prefix=/usr' '--exec-prefix=/usr' '--bindir=/usr/bin' '--datadir=/usr/share' '--libdir=/usr/lib' '--mandir=/usr/share/man/man1' '--infodir=/usr/share/info' '--with-gpm=no' '--with-sound=native' '--with-pop' '--mail-locking=lockf' '--with-clash-detection' '--debug=no' '--error-checking=none' '--with-mule=yes' '--with-database=berkdb' '--with-ldap=yes' '--with-hesiod=no' '--with-canna=yes' '--with-wnn=yes' '--with-widgets=motif' '--with-menubars=lucid' '--with-scrollbars=lucid' '--with-dialogs=motif' '--with-xim=xlib' '--with-msw=no' '--with-xfs=yes' '--pdump' XEmacs 21.4.13 "Rational FORTRAN" configured for `i686-redhat-linux'.
