Change to tracker configuration 5 years, 4 months

Hello, XEmacs users, I'm finally bringing the issue tracker (tracker.xemacs.org) into the 21st century. The server is now configured to server over HTTPS, using a Let's Encrypt certificate. Currently no SSL protocols are configured, while TLS versions 1.0, 1.1, and 1.2 are accepted. Over time I will try to upgrade the TLS version (ie, refuse TLS 1.0 and then TLS 1.1), as they are known to be weak. When I do, I'll make a similar announcement. Old URLs should continue to work, being redirected from HTTP on port 80 to HTTPS on port 443. Feel free to report any problems to xemacs-beta(a)xemacs.org or to me personally at stephen(a)xemacs.org. 21.5 build time segmentation fault 5 years, 7 months

Hi, I have received this bug report, https://bugs.gentoo.org/661592, which is about a segmentation violation during the build process of xemacs 21.5.34. I managed to recreate the problem once(!) on one of my machines but after that I have not been able to get it again, sigh, although I have tried it a like 20 times or more. I can't see that we have had this issue on the build bot either which uses the same machine I got the error on and does a lot of builds!? Aidan: Have you seen anything like this? (With a hope that some recent development you have done has touched and fixed things that could cause segmentation violations in this old code base!?) Yours -- %% Mats

Including "vc-fossil.el" in vc? 5 years, 7 months

Hi, I nave been banging a bit on vc-fossil.el from <http://chiselapp.com/user/venks/repository/emacs-fossil/doc/tip/doc/index...>, and got it to work with Xemacses "slightly-older vc. Provided there is interest: What would be the procedure to include the fuke with the XEmacs vc? Is the package smoketest useful? 5 years, 10 months

Hi, The xemacs package smoketest lives currently here: http://www.contactor.se/~matsl/smoketest/ I will have to move that to a new server but before doing so I would like to check if there really is any interest in keeping it? Markers are expensive in buffers that get many widely distributed small changes...but how expensive? What is a reasonable number of markers for a major mode to put into a buffer? I'd guess that in the modern world a few tens of thousands would not be a problem?

What options are supported by temacs? 5 years, 10 months

Hi, Fedora's package of XEmacs 20171230hg92757c2b8239 unsuccessfully tries to set user-mail-address to a fixed string "mockbuild(a)fedoraproject.org" to generate reproducible builds of *.elc files (XEmacs puts that information there). While looking into this, I noticed that: | make EMACSDEBUGPATHS=yes XEMACS_BATCH='$(DO_XEMACS) $(BATCH) -eval "(setq user-mail-address \"mockbuild(a)fedoraproject.org\")"' works, but *.elc files compiled early on by temacs still bear the default (in mock environments unpredictable) user-mail-address. So I tried: | make EMACSDEBUGPATHS=yes BATCH='-no-packages -batch -eval "(setq user-mail-address \"mockbuild(a)fedoraproject.org\")"' but that fails with: | ./temacs -nd -no-packages -batch -eval "(setq user-mail-address \"mockbuild(a)fedoraproject.org\")" -l /builddir/build/BUILD/xemacs-beta/src/../lisp/update-elc.el | temacs can only be run in -batch mode. What options are supported by temacs that could be used to set user-mail-address? (My fallback solution is to directly patch lisp/update-elc{,-2}.el, but I'd prefer to resolve the issue at make level if possible.) TIA, Tim P. S.: I tried to subscribe first to this mailing list via https://lists.xemacs.org/, but the link in the "Con- firmation needed" mail redirects to https://lists.xemacs.org/users/address_activation/[40-hex-string]/ and then gives a "Server Error (500)", with the sub- scription request lingering in "pending" state.

is speed a concern? 5 years, 10 months

Another possibly silly question arising from perusal of the great Mule merge... Is speed (or small linear factors in memory) ever actually a concern nowadays? The whole deal of supporting multiple internal buffer formats seems to be justified by speed for multi-lingual processing, and there are various tricky things scattered around the rest of the code to improve speed. The last time I can remember being disturbed by XEmacs' slowness was sometime in the mid 90s when I was running Lucid Emacs 19 on a 68040. (The days when a full compile was a go-out-for-long-dinner job rather than a you-may-just-have-time-to-make-coffee job.) On the other hand, I don't do extensive non-English processing.
