21.4.3 on solaris 22 years, 7 months

I previously reported an assertion error when I tried to build 21.4.3 for sun solaris. This problem does not happen in 21.4.4. -jeff I tried to build 21.4.3 on solaris. XEmacs 21.5.2 "artichoke" is released. 22 years, 7 months

In Martin's absence, I'm going to release a beta before I too head off on vacation (July 30--August 13). I think I got everything right, but Martin's procedures are undocumented (except as Perl code) and differ slightly from mine. One thing I can't do anything about quickly is the fact that the beta directory is read-only except to Martin. FOR THIS RELEASE ONLY, the tarballs and patch file are in ftp://ftp.xemacs.org/pub/xemacs/beta/tmp-21.5 They will be moved once the Tux administrators have changed the permissions. The CVS procedures are unchanged, and as far as I can tell the r21-5-2 tag has been added and the r21-5-current-beta tag has been moved to reflect the release. If there is a problem with CVS, any of the reviewers with shell access at ftp.xemacs.org should be able to fix. Please do, I will be only intermittently able to access the 'net for the next 2-1/2 weeks. Any possible error that might be caught in a DFC macro would also be caught wherever the argument is used elsewhere. As for Martin's "ANSI aliasing" bug, XEmacs is not ANSI-aliasing clean and probably never will be. Hi, I noticed some strange behavior on xemacs 21.4.3 and 21.4.4. I can't customize the face bold-italic. customize ignores all my settings on this face (except colors). Only a extermly ugly face will show up. I am sure that the font I am trying to assign to this face, is available as a bold-italic version. font-lock breakage in 21.4.4? 22 years, 7 months

[Please CC me as I am not on this list -baw] I recently upgraded from XEmacs 21.1.14 to 21.4.4 and noticed there's now a breakage in font-lock mode. Both of the issues below worked fine in 21.1.14 I believe. I notice it most often in python-mode but I don't think it's specific to that mode, since I've also seen it in CC Mode. Let's say I enter the following in a C buffer (with font-lock and fast-lock enabled): -------------------- snip snip -------------------- int main() { char* foo = "hello world"; char* bar = "goodbye world -------------------- snip snip -------------------- as you're typing "goodbye world and with the cursor now sitting just after the `d' in world, you will see that the `d' is not font-locked. As soon as you type the closing quote, it does get font-locked. That's annoying, but not horrible. Now with this in the buffer: -------------------- snip snip -------------------- int main() { char* foo = "hello world"; char* bar = "goodbye world"; -------------------- snip snip -------------------- Put your cursor at the end of the `foo' line and hit backspace twice, to erase first the semicolon and then the closing quote. As soon as the closing quote gets erased, the /following/ line (i.e. the `bar' line), gets totally screwed font-locking. XEmacs will font-lock char* bar = in string face and "goodbye world" in default face, with the trailing semi in string face again. Note that retyping the quote and semi at the end of the foo line does /not/ fix the font-locking for the bar line, so you're screwed. Is this a known bug in 21.4.4, and will it be fixed soon? If I use fast-lock-mode and try to view a long info file or man page (sufficiently long that fast-lock wants to write the locking cache to disk), then I get an error when I try to kill the buffer (wrong argument type stringp, nil). In my tests I was trying to setup XEmacs to read and write CP1250 "DOS" encoding by default and to use any other encoding (ISO-8859-2 and/or Unicode) on request. I have attached my "testing" initialization file. What I was referring to was the fact, that I have found no easy way to setup XEmacs to behave as any Windows locale aware application should: to read and write ANSI ( or OEM ) charset by default on non-recognized files. ( I am aware that I testing a non-finished implementation. ) If automatic configuration is not possible perhaps a new "language environment" "MSWindows" should me added? Something that would setup the correct coding systems according to current Windows locale with a simple command. Anyway, the two problems that I have are documented in the attachment: - As soon as I specify "buffer-file-coding-system-for-read" the DOS EOL detection stops working on a simple text files. - I was trying to setup coding systems using "prefer-coding-system" which failed. -- MM.
