I personally think this is a Good Thing[TM] but didn't we decide not
to work around this bug? I remember posting a question about this some
time ago (although I hadn't actually tried doing it).
If this goes in shouldn't there at least be a comment in the code,
otherwise someone might just undo this during the next code fiddling
attack :-)
